Remote Technical Team Lead – Data Platform (m/f/x) (onsite / remote in Germany)

Description:

  • As the leader of the Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in Scalable Capital’s data journey.
  • Your team is responsible for improving, extending, and automating the data platforms.
  • You will lead, mentor, and inspire a small team of senior data engineers.
  • You will own the architecture, development, and operation of the data platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Your responsibilities include automating platform operations and streamlining data workflows to increase efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
  • You will act as the first point of contact for other data engineering teams on topics like platform usage, data modeling, pipeline design, and general data engineering best practices.
  • You will collaborate cross-functionally to set standards and champion data engineering excellence across the organization, including security concepts.
  • You will remain hands-on by architecting, coding, reviewing, and deploying critical data infrastructure solutions.
  • You will drive the adoption of modern tooling, including GenAI-assisted coding, while applying critical thinking to recommendations and outputs.

Requirements:

  • You must have several years (5+) of hands-on experience building, improving, and operating data platforms in high-volume production environments.
  • Expertise in AWS Cloud, especially their data-native service offerings (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, etc.) is required.
  • You should possess expert-level knowledge of IAM, KMS, networking, and security best practices in AWS.
  • Expert level skills in SQL and Python are necessary.
  • You must be skilled in using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Workflow Orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or similar is required.
  • You should have knowledge in Data Modeling and Data Warehousing, including dimensional modeling and star/snowflake schemas; experience with Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery is a plus.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
  • You should have deep knowledge of Software Engineering best practices, including requirements specification, version control, CI/CD, and testing to deployment and monitoring of data pipelines and services.
  • The ability to balance the big picture (strategy, scaling) with hands-on engineering and problem-solving is essential.
  • Strong skills in data modeling, pipeline design, and automation are required.
  • You should have a data-native mindset, thinking data-first and knowing how to design robust, scalable, and maintainable platforms.
  • Comfort in leveraging GenAI-assisted coding while maintaining high standards and thoughtful code reviews is necessary.
  • Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and growing small expert teams is required.
  • You must be able to act as a trusted advisor for other teams and communicate complex technical topics clearly.
