Empirical is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to join an innovative Startup Studio focused on building and scaling AI-native products in regulated markets such as healthcare and insurance.
The role involves working across multiple early-stage portfolio companies, including some in stealth mode, on mission-driven platforms that integrate AI, automation, and modern web technologies.
This is a hands-on position with high visibility and impact, requiring both technical depth and adaptability.
Responsibilities include building and maintaining AI-powered, full stack applications, contributing to internal low-code tools, and working with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable technical solutions.
The engineer will lead architecture decisions, write high-quality code, and promote engineering best practices while supporting secure, compliant deployments in HIPAA-regulated environments.
Participation in agile ceremonies, code reviews, technical planning, and mentoring is also expected.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of professional experience in full stack software engineering.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and React is required.
Experience in building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant systems is essential.
Familiarity with Aptible or similar HIPAA-compliant cloud platforms is necessary.
Proficiency in PostgreSQL, Redis, and API design is required.
Experience with Docker and modern CI/CD pipelines is expected.
Strong automated testing skills using tools like Jest or Supertest are necessary.
Candidates should be able to work independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (written and verbal) are required.
