Description:

This position is for a Backend Software Engineer focused on developing and operating backend services for the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces.
The role involves writing clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, primarily using Python and optionally Golang.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing new features and enhancements from specification to production and ongoing operations at scale.
The engineer will collaborate remotely with a globally distributed team and review code and technical designs produced by other engineers.
The position requires discussing ideas and collaborating on finding effective solutions.
The role includes remote work with the possibility of global travel for 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.

Requirements:

Candidates must have demonstrated professional proficiency in developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python.
A broad technology base is required, with a preference for backend code and infrastructure.
Applicants should be knowledgeable about relational and non-relational databases, capable of designing effective data models, and tuning queries for performance.
Comfort with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform is necessary.
Strong academic performance in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree is expected.
