Description:
The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain data infrastructure for the CDC Foundation, specifically aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI).
This position is remote but candidates must be based in the United States.
The salary range for this role is $103,500-$143,500 per year, with individual offers based on experience and qualifications.
The position is grant funded and is a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2026.
The Data Engineer will work closely with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and collaborate with software development, product managers, and other data engineers.
Responsibilities include creating and managing data systems and pipelines, collecting and transforming data, optimizing workflows, monitoring performance, implementing security measures, and providing technical guidance.
The role requires effective communication with partners at all levels to gather requirements and present findings.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required; degrees in business administration, Engineering Technology, Liberal Arts, Physical Science, Public Administration, Social Science, or related disciplines will also be considered.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required, with a preference for 6 years of experience in relational database management systems in a client/server environment.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, SQL, C#, and C++ is necessary.
Candidates should be able to implement data automations within existing frameworks rather than writing one-off scripts.
A strong understanding of relational database systems like Microsoft SQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL is essential.
Experience with AWS tools for data engineering and knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools are required.
Familiarity with engineering best practices, cloud computing platforms, and agile development methodologies is expected.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
Candidates should have outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills and experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.
Experience with big data technologies and frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Flink is a plus.
