Description:
The Senior Backend Engineer will build robust, fault-tolerant integrations with third-party APIs that have little to no or poor documentation.
The role involves creating sophisticated background processing pipelines that are also fault-tolerant.
The engineer will develop mature APIs and microservices that adhere to RESTful principles, which are used by paying clients in production.
Strong unit and integration tests must be written to ensure the code quality of the work.
The engineer will investigate client issues and service disruptions that require a deep dive.
High-level requirements will be translated into system design updates and new data models while collaborating with clients and team members through requirements gathering and discovery.
The engineer will evaluate the pros and cons of high-level architectural choices as well as lower-level design decisions required within an existing application.
The role requires working autonomously and making system design decisions that are resistant to change, leveraging experience.
The engineer should be deeply invested in their work and client happiness.
Mentoring junior to mid-level engineers while holding them accountable is also a key responsibility.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 7+ years of full-time experience as a Software Engineer.
A BS in Computer Science or commensurate experience is required.
Proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript programming languages is necessary.
Strong experience with relational databases, including schema and query design, implementation, optimization, and ORM usage, is essential.
A deep understanding of Node.js semantics, including event loops, streams, and events, is required.
A proven track record for integrating with external APIs is necessary.
Candidates must have full confidence in building a fault-tolerant and high-performance microservice.
Experience with background job processing and queues is required.
A history of scaling and optimizing the performance of applications to support rapid growth is essential.
