Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer

Description:

• At Mechanical Orchard, we specialize in rewriting critical and complex business applications to adapt to market challenges and opportunities.
• Our Generative AI platform, Imogen, utilizes advanced data engineering, compiler, and LLM-based techniques.
• As an Infrastructure Software Engineer, you will work as part of a small, cross-functional XP team to build infrastructure as code for product teams.
• You will pair program with other engineers and collaborate closely with product managers and designers.
• The role involves working with client infrastructure, security, and network teams to deploy Imogen to their cloud infrastructure.
• You will lead technical discovery efforts for existing customer systems and adapt Imogen to their public cloud estate.
• The position requires applying and evolving XP engineering practices such as pair programming, test-driven development, refactoring, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
• You will adapt XP practices for working with AI and operate and support production applications in an agile DevSecOps model.
• The role includes onboarding client developers and new team members, continuously learning about emerging technologies, and participating in an on-call rotation for incident response.

Requirements:

• The ideal candidate has experience as a software engineer in a professional, team-based environment, with a passion for XP practices such as pair programming and test-driven development.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software/Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience such as completion of a coding bootcamp is required.
• Candidates should possess strategic thinking, technical skills, and attention to detail.
• The ability to learn new software and technologies quickly is essential.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, along with empathy, are necessary for working closely with the development team and customers.
• Comfort with pair programming, which is the default mode of working at Mechanical Orchard, is required.
• Experience or demonstrated passion for cloud infrastructure and related tooling is necessary.
