Elicit is building the reasoning layer for science and decision-making using language models to search over 125 million papers, extract data, and surface insights.

As an ML research engineer at Elicit, you will compose multiple calls to language models to accomplish complex tasks.
You will curate datasets for fine-tuning models, such as training models to extract policy conclusions from papers.
You will set up evaluation metrics to assess improvements in models or training setups.
You will scale up semantic search capabilities from a few thousand documents to over 100,000 documents.
Requirements:
A strong software engineering background is required, with experience in building systems, designing architecture, and creating good abstractions.
Familiarity with language models, including training, fine-tuning, and evaluation, or a comparable background in machine learning or natural language processing is necessary.
A startup mindset is essential, with a focus on measuring impact and a willingness to test ideas, gather feedback, and learn continuously.
Candidates should be able to answer technical questions related to transformers, tokenizers, decorators in Python, and generic types.
