Remote Principal Data Engineer

Description:

• Owns organizational-wide data architecture, defining standards, patterns, and designs for implementation.
• Reviews data-related designs for architectural consistency, performance, and scalability.
• Produces reference implementations and provides hands-on guidance for complex data challenges.
• Designs and develops data pipelines, integrations, and platform features with a focus on performance and scalability.
• Builds and maintains data APIs and ingestion systems for high-volume data.
• Ensures quality of data systems, including testing strategies and data integrity standards.
• Consults with product managers to define and plan new data features.
• Partners with CTO and engineering leadership on strategic data initiatives.
• Defines data quality standards and automated validation patterns.
• Designs IoT data ingestion architecture for expanding device fleet.
• Tests and recommends technologies to improve data infrastructure.
• Produces excellent documentation.

Requirements:

• 12+ years of professional data engineering or software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience providing architectural direction to engineering teams.
• Experience setting data architecture standards across multiple teams.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Substantial experience with SQL; NoSQL experience is a plus.
• Experience with Python for data engineering workflows; Node.js experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark or Flink is a plus.
• Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow is a plus.
• Experience with containerized application deployments, especially Docker, is preferred.
• Experience with large-scale data systems and data warehousing solutions is preferred.
• Familiarity with message queueing architectures, especially RabbitMQ, is preferred.
• Experience with AWS services, especially S3, RDS, DMS, and VPC; Redshift or EMR experience is a plus.
• Experience with AI/ML systems and building data infrastructure for model training is a plus.
• Experience designing data architectures for IoT or high-frequency telemetry systems is preferred.
