Remote Senior Backend Engineer (Data, Search, Infrastructure)

Description:

• Work on data-heavy systems that ingest, process, store, and serve a literature database of 250M+ academic papers.
• Build pipelines, optimize search, handle PDFs at scale, and expose clean APIs.

Requirements:

• Strong backend engineering background with experience in production data-heavy systems.
• Experience deploying and operating services on AWS.
• Design and maintain data ingestion pipelines from heterogeneous sources, including web scraping.
• Familiarity with Node.js and TypeScript; other languages like Java or Python are acceptable.
• High standards for data quality, focusing on correctness, deduplication, and consistency.
• Solid understanding of full-text search systems, including indexing strategy and query optimization.
• Proficient in building reliable REST APIs.
