Description:

SmartRecruiters is seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer focused on Design System and Accessibility.
The engineering team aims to connect great people with great jobs through technology, having supported over 100 million job seekers.
The role involves leading design system and accessibility initiatives across product teams.
Responsibilities include interviewing frontend engineers and designers to identify gaps, shaping open-ended platform problems into actionable plans, and delivering improvements.
The engineer will communicate regularly with engineering and design partners to maintain alignment on components, patterns, and standards.
The position requires authoring technical documents for components, guidelines, accessibility workflows, and contribution models.
The engineer will influence technical decisions, evolve the design system, and enhance accessibility and shared UI quality.
Mentoring engineers on consistent patterns and effective use of the design system is also a key responsibility.
Collaboration with Design, Product, and Technologists is essential to align specifications and standards with company goals.
The engineer will apply system thinking to refine components, workflows, and governance as the product and organization grow.

Requirements:

A strong understanding of JavaScript, Typescript, and Node.js is required.
Familiarity with all aspects of the frontend ecosystem is essential.
Practical experience applying accessibility standards is necessary.
Candidates must have experience building or maintaining design systems.
Experience delivering cross-team initiatives that required close collaboration with Engineering and Design is required.
Knowledge of software development methods and best practices is essential.
A high level of personal organization skills is necessary.
Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are required.
Nice to have qualifications include experience with Lit or similar web component technologies, defining contribution models or design system governance, familiarity with monorepos and cross-team workflows, understanding of automated accessibility tooling and CI integrations, and exposure to inner source practices and platform engineering work.
