WeVote is seeking a volunteer Senior Software Engineer to help strengthen American Democracy by developing new skills with CSS/HTML, ReactJS, or Python/Django.
The position requires a minimum commitment of 8 hours per week, with the option to work up to 20 hours per week.
WeVote is a nonpartisan nonprofit startup focused on mobilizing voters and providing a positive voting experience.
The role involves working on interesting and challenging engineering projects in preparation for the 2026 elections.
Responsibilities include installing software on development machines, working as a full-stack engineer in React and Python, and collaborating with engineering teams in weekly Zoom meetings.
Engineers will tackle specific issues and larger projects as part of a team.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a passion for technology and a commitment to strengthening American Democracy.
Applicants should have enough experience or aptitude to complete projects that may take 5-20 hours, with support available.
A minimum availability of 8 hours per week during core team hours (M-F 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.) is required.
Candidates must be willing to work with and support other volunteers.
Applicants must be currently located in the US, as the project is 100% remote.
An academic degree or work experience in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred but not required.
