Description:

  • Friends From The City is seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Drupal Developer for a 4.5-month contract from April 21, 2025, to September 16, 2025.
  • The position is remote, with a preference for U.S.-based candidates, and requires approximately 30 hours per week, totaling around 642 hours.
  • The role involves leading backend development for a Drupal 10 site using Gesso, focusing on the redesign and content migration of the NY State Parks & Recreation public-facing website.
  • Responsibilities include planning and executing a multi-source migration from a custom .NET CMS, static HTML, WordPress, and PDFs, as well as configuring and implementing Paragraphs, Groups, content types, taxonomies, and views.
  • The developer will build custom API endpoints to integrate location/event data from legacy systems and ensure platform performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaboration with a cross-functional team, including project managers, designers, frontend developers, QA, and the content team, is essential.
  • The role also includes supporting post-launch improvements and creating training documentation.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 6+ years of backend Drupal development experience, specifically with Drupal 9/10.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Paragraphs module, Groups module, Migrate API/Drush, and custom API developments is required.
  • Experience in migrating structured and unstructured content, handling hundreds to thousands of pages, is necessary.
  • Familiarity with component-based themes, such as Gesso or similar, is expected.
  • A strong understanding of Drupal permissions and editorial workflows is essential.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working with accessibility standards, including 508 and WCAG.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills are required.
  • Fluency in Git/GitHub is necessary.
  • Candidates must be U.S.-based and eligible for 1099 contracting.
