Remote Backend Engineer, Edge at Zapier

Description:

The Backend Engineer will join Team Edge at Zapier to build internal automation services that power products.
The role involves handling incoming traffic and outgoing requests to partners, powering Triggers and Actions.
The services are critical, run at scale, and serve as a foundation for all of Zapier's operations.
Responsibilities include working with AWS services like SQS, Redis, S3, Lambda, and MSK to build scalable solutions.
The engineer will use Terraform to maintain and build infrastructure, refactor existing code, and collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams.
Participation in on-call rotations to ensure system reliability and availability is required.
The role offers the opportunity to specialize in various areas of the Zapier codebase and encourages collaboration across teams.

The candidate should have over 4 years of experience, with at least 2 years dedicated to building distributed, scalable web applications.
Proficiency in Python for building web services, AWS technologies (especially Lambda), event-based technologies like Kafka or SQS, and database performance optimization with MySQL is required.
Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Datadog is necessary.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code using GitLab and Terraform, and implementing authentication mechanisms like OAuth and JWT is preferred.
Ability to balance multiple services, collaborate effectively, advocate for users, and enjoy learning new technologies are essential qualities for the role.
