Description:

  • Swapcard is seeking a Backend Engineer to join one of their squads focused on enhancing core systems for their AI-powered event platform.
  • The role involves designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, scalable backend solutions for event organizers.
  • Responsibilities include participating in coding, system design, code reviews, and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Collaboration with engineers, product managers, and designers is essential to devise optimal engineering solutions.
  • The position offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects that shape the future of Swapcard’s platform, including squads focused on matchmaking, website building, and integration.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 3+ years of experience in software development with a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals such as algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least one backend programming language, such as Node.js (TypeScript) or Go, is required, along with the ability to design and deploy high-quality APIs (GraphQL or REST).
  • Proficiency with both relational and non-relational databases, including MariaDB, MongoDB, and Postgres, with a focus on optimization and performance tuning is necessary.
  • Candidates should be skilled at maintaining and improving legacy systems and evaluating tradeoffs between refactor, rebuild, or buy decisions.
  • Outstanding communication skills are essential, with a proactive, adaptable, and self-motivated attitude to work asynchronously across multiple time zones.
  • Proven ability to operate, troubleshoot, and scale systems built with a microservices architecture using tools like Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, and GRPC/Protobuf is required.
