Description:
The Backend Engineer position at GitLab focuses on the Gitaly cluster team, working on the Git data storage tier of GitLab.
Responsibilities include participating in architectural discussions, designing RPC interfaces, scoping tasks, developing Gitaly, monitoring and profiling in production, building dashboards and alerts, conducting acceptance testing, educating team members, writing code, peer reviewing, improving product quality and security, addressing pain points, qualifying developers for hiring, and responding to emergencies and support requests.
The role involves working on a new distributed cluster solution and improving Disaster Recovery readiness.
The position requires collaboration with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to achieve common goals.
Requirements:
Mandatory: Professional experience in building, debugging, and optimizing software in large-scale, high-volume environments.
Mandatory: Professional experience in writing and testing high-quality code.
Mandatory: Good understanding of building instrumented, observable software systems.
Highly desirable: Professional experience in writing and testing quality code in Go.
Highly desirable: Understanding of git’s internal data structures or experience running git servers.
Highly desirable: Experience with gRPC.
Highly desirable: Willingness to learn Ruby.
Highly desirable: Experience running highly-available systems in production environments.
