Description:
Alma is seeking a mission-driven Backend Engineer III to join their team focused on simplifying access to high-quality, affordable mental health care.
The role involves building features that solve real problems for mental health providers and requires strong communication, experimentation, and iteration skills.
Responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing maintainable and scalable backend systems using technologies such as Python, Django, and AWS.
The engineer will develop both member-facing and internal-facing features related to onboarding, scheduling, billing, and client management.
Collaboration with Product Managers, Product Designers, and cross-functional stakeholders is essential to conceptualize and build solutions for practical problems.
The engineer must ensure applications and services meet Alma's standards for performance, scalability, and security.
Requirements:
Candidates should have 2-4 years of experience as an engineer with a proven history of working across the stack and building products at scale.
Experience in building APIs, system design, and working with relational databases is required.
A strong understanding of security compliance is necessary.
Candidates must be experienced in writing and maintaining automated tests, including unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing.
Proficiency in code versioning tools, such as Git, is required.
A passion for customer-centered software development and collaboration with engineers, designers, and product managers is essential.
Candidates should possess a desire to experiment and use research and data to make data-driven decisions.

The salary band for this position is $140,000 - $160,000, with a compensation philosophy focused on pay equity.
