Puzzle is a U.S.-based company focused on creating an AI content creation and management system for modern GTM teams.
The company is seeking a skilled and experienced Backend Engineer with a strong background in telephony and VoIP.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building products around telephony systems and optimizing call handling and voice processing.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems that interface with telephony and VoIP technologies.
The engineer will integrate and optimize APIs, specifically working with OAI, Elevenlabs, Deepgram, and FreeSWITCH.
The role involves building robust and scalable products focused on telephony, optimizing switch time, reducing bridge-to-connect time, and improving voicemail detection accuracy.
The engineer will utilize state-of-the-art industry practices to ensure high performance and reliability.
Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to telephony systems and APIs is also a key responsibility.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features is expected.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of hands-on experience with Node/Typescript development.
Proven experience in telephony and VoIP, including building products around these technologies, is required.
Hands-on experience with FreeSWITCH or similar telephony platforms is necessary.
Proficiency in optimizing switch time and reducing bridge-to-connect time is essential.
Experience in reducing false positive/negative rates in voicemail detection is required.
Familiarity with best/SOTA industry practices, including the use of OS libraries, is expected.
Strong programming skills in languages commonly used in backend development are necessary.
Preferred qualifications include experience with OAI API, Elevenlabs, and Deepgram.
A strong understanding of network protocols and telecommunication standards is preferred.
Prior experience in a similar role within the telecommunication industry is advantageous.
