Description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Developer to join our team at Zap, a digital design and marketing agency based in Glasgow, Scotland.
This role follows a backshift schedule from 2 PM to 10 PM UK time to cover evening client requests.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building WordPress plugins for large eCommerce clients and developing scalable, high-performance solutions.
You will research and implement innovative ways to enhance backend capabilities across client websites.
The role involves debugging and optimizing functionality for maximum speed, performance, and scalability.
You will write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while collaborating with front-end developers, designers, and project managers.
The position requires liaising with third-party providers to integrate external applications and staying updated on industry trends to recommend new tools and best practices.
You will handle client emergency requests efficiently during your fixed backshift schedule.
Requirements:
You must be a confident creative with the ability to share ideas and take initiative.
Experience in WordPress development is essential, particularly in building and utilizing custom plugins, working with WP-CRON, transients, caching, and query optimization.
Proven experience with WooCommerce and the ability to develop scalable, high-traffic eCommerce websites is required.
You should have a strong background in writing scalable, clean code that can handle high order volumes and large-scale operations.
Proficiency in PHP and JavaScript is necessary, along with knowledge of MySQL and REST APIs.
Familiarity with Laravel and React is a bonus, though not required.
You should be comfortable with GIT-based workflows and have a focus on efficiency, speed, user experience, and process improvement.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively is crucial, as is being a great communicator who can articulate ideas and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
