Description:

  • We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Developer to join our team at Zap, a digital design and marketing agency based in Glasgow, Scotland.
  • This role follows a backshift schedule from 2 PM to 10 PM UK time to cover evening client requests.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for building WordPress plugins for large eCommerce clients and developing scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • You will research and implement innovative ways to enhance backend capabilities across client websites.
  • The role involves debugging and optimizing functionality for maximum speed, performance, and scalability.
  • You will write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while collaborating with front-end developers, designers, and project managers.
  • The position requires liaising with third-party providers to integrate external applications and staying updated on industry trends to recommend new tools and best practices.
  • You will handle client emergency requests efficiently during your fixed backshift schedule.

Requirements:

  • You must be a confident creative with the ability to share ideas and take initiative.
  • Experience in WordPress development is essential, particularly in building and utilizing custom plugins, working with WP-CRON, transients, caching, and query optimization.
  • Proven experience with WooCommerce and the ability to develop scalable, high-traffic eCommerce websites is required.
  • You should have a strong background in writing scalable, clean code that can handle high order volumes and large-scale operations.
  • Proficiency in PHP and JavaScript is necessary, along with knowledge of MySQL and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with Laravel and React is a bonus, though not required.
  • You should be comfortable with GIT-based workflows and have a focus on efficiency, speed, user experience, and process improvement.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively is crucial, as is being a great communicator who can articulate ideas and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
