Description:
WiredPeople is seeking to hire a Bioinformatics DevOps Engineer/Developer - Advanced Molecular Detection to support genomic surveillance and outbreak investigations for pathogens of public health concern in Florida.
The role involves working directly with the Bioinformatics Team, primarily supporting the development and implementation of a cloud computing architecture to enhance the current computational infrastructure.
Responsibilities include planning and executing whole-genome sequencing analysis, developing custom bioinformatics pipelines, managing databases, and maintaining data quality control.
The position requires leading the development of cloud computing architecture and providing technical assistance to bioinformaticians, laboratory staff, and epidemiologists.
The candidate will disseminate research results through various venues and attend training workshops.
Requirements:
A PhD in bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology, microbiology, virology, parasitology, evolutionary biology, microbial genetics, molecular biology, computer science, or a related field is required.
The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience following their degree, specifically in microbial and/or public health bioinformatics.
A minimum of five years of experience in bioinformatic development of pipelines for phylogenetic and comparative genomic analysis of microbial organisms is necessary.
At least two years of experience with cloud computing is required, with specific experience in AWS/Cloud preferred.
Proficiency in a scripting/programming language such as Python, Perl, R, C++, or Java is essential, along with experience in a UNIX/LINUX environment.
The candidate should have experience developing custom scripts and executing command-line bioinformatics tools for microbial genomics comparative analysis.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with experience in presenting complex data and publishing in scientific literature.
