Description:

  • The Cloud Database Engineer will perform database engineering and administration activities including design, planning, configuration, monitoring, automation, self-serviceability, alerting, and space management, as well as database backup and recovery.
  • The role involves planning computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and protection, with the capacity to lead and advise on migration and modernization.
  • Responsibilities include creating, maintaining, and using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for migration execution to ensure long-term technical viability and optimization of production deployments and administration.
  • The engineer will engage, consult, and deliver based on interactive customer communications to streamline project deliverables and scope of work.
  • Capacity planning will be required to forecast future database growth based on usage trends and plan for hardware and storage requirements to ensure scalability and optimal performance.
  • The role includes planning and executing database software upgrades, patches, and service packs as part of patch management and upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting and issue resolution will involve investigating and resolving complex database-related issues, including data corruption, performance problems, and connectivity challenges.
  • The engineer will contribute to automation scripts and tools to streamline repetitive tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce the risk of human errors.
  • Monitoring and alerting systems will be set up to proactively identify and address potential database issues before they become critical.
  • Performance analysis and reporting will be generated for stakeholders and management to provide insights into the database environment's health and performance.
  • The engineer will maintain up-to-date documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Responsibilities also include resolving incident, change, and service requests under the agreed client SLA and creating detailed RCA reports for problem management.
  • The engineer will evaluate and manage third-party tools and solutions that assist in database management, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Participation in 24X7 production support for Database Operations is required.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud tech tools such as Azure Migrate, Data Migration Service, Azure ASR, GCP DMS, and GCP Backup and Disaster Recovery Service is necessary for migration from Oracle or PostgreSQL to/from other RDBMS platforms for PaaS models like Azure Database and GCP Cloud SQL.
  • Understanding cloud basics and performing duties like security management, storage management, and cost optimization is essential.
  • Proficient skills in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL for architecture, installation, configuration, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, and troubleshooting are required.
  • Experience in planning and executing database migrations and upgrades, including version compatibility, testing, and minimizing downtime is necessary.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices for Oracle and/or PostgreSQL administration, including configuration settings, maintenance tasks, and disaster recovery strategies is expected.
  • The engineer must possess the ability to communicate technical information and ideas clearly and apply varying leadership skills to create solutions and results in unexpected situations.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a directly related field is necessary.
  • Database specialty certifications in Azure/GCP are required.
  • Cloud Associate/Professional Certification is preferred.
  • Experience working in automation with Python/Shell and scalability to deploy, manage, and troubleshoot HADR configurations in Oracle (RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, Data Pump, ASM, Golden Gate) or PostgreSQL (Master-Slave Replication, InnoDB Cluster Set) is essential.
  • A good understanding of patching, cloning, security, backup and recovery procedures, node addition, deletion, replication setup, and DR-drill activities is required.
  • Knowledge of deploying and managing databases in cloud platforms such as Azure Database and/or GCP Cloud SQL is necessary.
  • Familiarity with homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations from/to between various tech buckets (Oracle and/or PostgreSQL) is expected.
  • Understanding of monitoring tools such as Datadog, Azure Monitor, OEM, or GCP Monitoring Tool for alerting and performance analysis is required.
  • Experience with ITIL-based ticketing tools like Service Now is preferred.
