Description:

Magpie Literacy is an early stage, funded edtech nonprofit focused on eradicating illiteracy in America.
The team consists of former educators, literacy curriculum experts, and product developers dedicated to teaching every child to read through research-based instruction, personalization, and technology.
The organization is building a comprehensive, tech-enabled reading product for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade that promotes foundational literacy and reading fluency.
The Cloud Security Engineer (Contract) will support the platform and security needs, maintaining secure and auditable infrastructure across AWS environments.
The role involves responding to vulnerabilities, collaborating with engineers on remediation efforts, and improving detection and alerting capabilities.
The engineer will help implement Compliance as Code strategies, support audit efforts, and coordinate scans and remediations.

Requirements:

Strong experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and Terraform is required.
A solid understanding of modern cloud security practices and threat modeling is necessary.
Familiarity with CI/CD security is important for this role.
The candidate must be able to translate compliance requirements into actionable engineering work.
Organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams are essential.
Experience with Compliance as Code tools (e.g., Open Policy Agent, InSpec, or similar) is a nice to have.
Prior experience working in startups or fast-paced environments is also a plus.
