Description:
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Compute Software and Infrastructure intern to join a small software development team.
The intern will support engineering teams in developing code and compute infrastructure for nuclear power system design and analysis.
Responsibilities include implementing modeling methods in computational physics and mathematics, developing analysis tools, and deploying CI/CD pipelines.
The intern will build cloud-based compute infrastructure and ensure teams have scalable and robust tools and workflows.
Collaboration with nuclear and non-software engineers is essential to define and develop software projects.
The role involves understanding and implementing complex methods in computational modeling and infrastructure applications.
The intern will develop, test, and maintain code that adheres to internal software quality compliance and best practices.
Additional tasks include enhancing CI/CD processes, documenting code, reviewing existing code for optimizations, and managing technical issues.
Requirements:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master of Science or Ph.D. program related to physics, engineering, mathematics, or computational science.
Strong experience in computational modeling, scientific computing, and software development using languages and tools such as Python, C++, git, bash, and ssh is required.
Experience with environment management and containerization tools like conda and docker is necessary.
Familiarity with software concepts such as object-oriented programming, polymorphism, data structures, and algorithms is expected.
Knowledge of modern coding best practices, including version control with Git, CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing frameworks like PyTest or GoogleTest, is essential.
Familiarity with code documentation tools such as Doxygen or Sphinx is required.
Experience with cloud platforms like AWS is desired.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team are necessary.
Candidates should prioritize safety, proactively manage knowledge, and seek efficiencies in problem-solving.

The hourly range for this position is $32-34 for employees working onsite at the Alameda, CA headquarters.
