Remote CTO Systems Architect

Description:

• Bottomline is seeking a CTO Systems Architect to work remotely or from the Portsmouth, NH office.
• The Systems Architect will design and implement highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant applications and services for Bottomline’s Global Business Solutions.
• This role requires a deep technical understanding of designing applications to meet non-functional requirements such as security, scale, availability, and disaster recovery.
• The Architect will collaborate closely with R&D teams and influence decision-makers on technology usage to benefit the business.
• Responsibilities include designing application architectures, ensuring applications meet functional and non-functional requirements, and leveraging cloud-native technologies.
• The Architect will work with developers to support application resilience and zero-downtime deployments.
• Collaboration with Development, Data Center Engineering, Product Management, and Delivery is essential to guarantee cohesive solutions.
• The role involves mentoring and providing leadership to Software Developers and Solution Architects.
• Hands-on contributions to development, including POCs and fault isolation, are expected.
• The Architect will support standards and technology selections for software components, interfaces, and APIs, and assist in buy vs. build decisions.
• Regular reviews of ongoing implementations for improvements and performance optimizations are required.
• The Architect will review designs with an understanding of regulatory and internal policies such as FFIEC, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, PCI-DSS, and SLAs.
• Participation and leadership in architectural design at various levels within applications are part of the role.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have an extensive technical background in Systems and Application architecture with strong leadership in agile software development.
• A strong background in designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems is required.
• Proven experience in designing and deploying highly available solutions using cloud-native technologies (docker, k8s, service mesh) is essential.
• Experience with high-availability systems, replication, and failover strategies is necessary.
• Mastery in service-based, object-based, and component-based modeling is required.
• Candidates must have an expert understanding of security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency architectural patterns.
• Expertise in solution design across the full technology stack, including public and hybrid cloud deployments, is needed.
• Candidates should be knowledgeable about evolutionary architecture and balancing present technologies with emerging ones.
• Extensive experience with at least one major IaaS and/or PaaS technology (OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, etc.) is required.
• Strong knowledge of data enablement, including ingestion, storage, and security constructs (encryption, keys, certs, tokens), is necessary.
• Exposure to new and emerging technologies such as Data Mesh, Service Mesh, Blockchain, AI/Machine Learning, and Quantum Computing is preferred.
• Candidates must be able to model application components and infrastructure and understand the importance of data and analytics.
• Fluency in programming in at least two languages is required, with the ability to engage hands-on at the code level.
• Effective communication skills to present at both developer and management levels are essential.
• A track record of innovation and driving transformative ideas through Communities of Practice (COP) is preferred.
• Candidates should be collaborative team players with experience in a global organization.
• A BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant fields is required.
