Description:
The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain data infrastructure for the CDC Foundation, specifically for the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI).
This position is remote and requires the candidate to be based in the United States.
The salary range for this role is $103,500-$143,500 per year, with individual offers based on experience and qualifications.
The work schedule is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST, Monday to Friday.
This is a grant-funded, limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
The Data Engineer will work within the Maine CDC’s Informatics team, focusing on data generation, storage, processing, and analysis.
Responsibilities include collaborating with various stakeholders to design and implement data solutions, developing data governance plans, and expanding the capabilities of the data lake/warehouse for public health data.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data engineering is required.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL is necessary, with the ability to implement data automations.
Experience with large-scale projects using Amazon Web Services is required, and certification is preferred.
Strong technical writing skills for documentation, policies, and procedures are essential.
Experience with project planning, including developing timelines and managing resources, is required.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools is necessary.
Experience with cloud computing platforms and data security/governance is required.
Familiarity with engineering best practices such as source control and automated testing is essential.
Expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration techniques is required.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills are necessary.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and outstanding interpersonal skills are required.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote teams is necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
