Remote Data Engineer

Description:

• Federato Technologies is a Series B startup based in San Francisco, CA, focused on leveraging data and AI to improve portfolio optimization for large insurance carriers.
• The Data Engineer will be the first hire in the data science & engineering team, reporting directly to the head of data science.
• This role involves collaborating closely with the head of data science to implement Machine Learning features.
• Responsibilities include developing, designing, creating, modifying, and testing ETL pipelines or systems to support Machine Learning and Analytics capabilities.
• The Data Engineer will ensure data quality through flow management, implementing guardrails, health checks, and alerts.
• The position requires collaboration with customers to understand their data ecosystem and consolidate data models for predictive modeling.
• A strong understanding of relevant data domains, codebase, and systems is necessary.
• The role demands proficiency in data engineering, data architecture, programming, and software engineering.
• Good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for solutions is essential.
• The Data Engineer must work independently, utilize resources effectively, and complete tasks on schedule.
• Mastery of internal development standards is required to handle increasingly complex tasks and projects.
• Collaboration with Data Science, Product Managers, and Software Engineers is necessary to build robust ETL pipelines.

Requirements:

• A demonstrated interest in data and machine learning for impact is required.
• A university degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Data Mining, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Applied Sciences, or a related field is necessary.
• Candidates must have 2+ years of hands-on industry experience in data engineering.
• Familiarity with event backbone and job pool platforms, such as Kafka, is required.
• A willingness to engage with a variety of internal and client software is essential.
• Experience in engaging with customers and translating their needs into valuable features is necessary.
• Candidates should have 2+ years of experience with Typescript and Python (Django), specifically in building complex ETL pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with SQL database design, data modeling, and data mining is required.
• A demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies is essential.
• Experience in design and code reviews is necessary.

Benefits:

• The target cash compensation range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000 a year, with the opportunity for a bonus incentive.
