Description:
The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure for a public health organization.
This role is aligned to the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), which aims to help public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Engineer will be responsible for creating and managing the architecture for data generation, storage, processing, and analysis.
This position involves collaborating with the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Public Health Department (TMPHD) team and other organizational staff to design and implement solutions that address public health needs.
Responsibilities include creating and managing systems and pipelines for efficient data flow, using Rhapsody for data integration, optimizing data pipelines, and implementing security measures.
The Data Engineer will also develop and maintain ETL processes, manage data storage systems, and provide technical guidance to team members.
This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in data engineering is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL is required, with the ability to implement data automations.
A strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is essential.
Experience with establishing Secure File Transfer Protocols (SFTP) and/or Simple Storage Service (S3) connections is required.
Familiarity with engineering best practices, including source control and automated testing, is necessary.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools is required.
Experience with cloud computing platforms is essential.
Expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration techniques is necessary.
Understanding of agile development methodologies and software design patterns is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
The ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is required.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships are essential.
Experience working in a remote environment with distributed teams is necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits.
Individual salary offers will be based on experience and qualifications unique to each candidate.
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST.
This position is grant funded and is a limited-term opportunity, ending on June 30, 2025.
The role offers a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates.
