Description:
The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing the designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI).
This position is remote and must be based in the United States, with a work schedule from 8 am to 5 pm Central Time, allowing for a flexible work schedule of one hour before or after.
The salary range for this position is $103,500 to $143,500 per year, plus benefits, with individual salary offers based on experience and qualifications.
The role is grant funded and is a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Responsibilities include documenting the existing architecture of the case-based disease surveillance system, maintaining architectural diagrams, collaborating with end-users and technical staff, evaluating and implementing disease surveillance system solutions, and documenting all aspects of the system architecture.
The Data Engineer will also create and manage systems and pipelines for data flow, collect and transform data, optimize data pipelines, implement security measures, and collaborate with various teams to support organizational goals.
The position requires effective communication with partners at all levels to gather requirements and present findings.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
Candidates must have 5 years of experience with project oversight, including communications to end-users and technical staff.
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL, is necessary.
Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies or similar (AWS) is required.
A strong understanding of database systems, including relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra), is essential.
Candidates should have experience with engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools, as well as expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration techniques, is required.
A solid understanding of FHIR and API-based architectures is necessary.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies, software design patterns, and best practices is expected.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Experience with project management and tracking software (e.g., JIRA and DevOps) is required.
Candidates must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are necessary, along with experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
