Description:
The Data Engineer will be part of the global Operations & Technology organization, specifically within the D&A team, which focuses on data and analytics strategies for NBCUniversal's diverse portfolio.
This role involves building the next generation of data pipelines and applications to support generative AI initiatives.
Responsibilities include engaging with business leaders, engineers, and product managers to define and meet data requirements.
The Data Engineer will work closely with technology teams to execute ETL/ELT processes, managing data from various sources using cloud-native principles.
The position requires participation in the design, construction, and scaling of data pipelines, integrating data from internal systems, third-party platforms, and cloud environments.
The role also involves supporting internal process optimizations by automating workflows and enhancing data delivery.
The Data Engineer will apply design patterns to ensure performance, cost-efficiency, security, scalability, and a positive end-user experience.
Active involvement in development sprints, demonstrations, and retrospectives is expected, contributing to deployment and release processes.
Cultivating relationships with IT support teams to ensure smooth deployment of work products is also a key responsibility.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with a foundational understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT principles, and data warehousing.
Experience with data management fundamentals and cloud-based data warehouses such as AWS S3, GCP Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, GCP BigQuery, or Snowflake is required.
Proficiency in building data pipelines using Python and SQL is necessary.
Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow is preferred, or a willingness to learn is acceptable.
Candidates should have experience in applying CI/CD principles and processes to data engineering solutions.
A general understanding of cloud data engineering design patterns and use cases is expected.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline is preferred.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams in a large, matrixed organization are essential.
Candidates should be action-oriented, capable of solving new problems, and demonstrate ethical behavior and integrity.
