Description:
The Data Engineer role at Make involves designing, building, and managing robust data pipelines using Airflow to ensure seamless integration, transformation, and accessibility of data.
The position requires contributing to the development of the data platform by building custom plugins and operators to enhance pipeline functionality and reusability.
The Data Engineer will manage and optimize cloud-based infrastructure, primarily using AWS services, and implement infrastructure as code using Terraform.
Responsibilities include translating complex business needs into effective data architecture and workflows, designing and maintaining data models that align with business requirements, and using SQL to build and optimize data models for analytics.
The role advocates for and implements data governance best practices, focusing on visibility, quality, and compliance with industry standards, while developing data quality checks and validation frameworks.
The Data Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand and fulfill their data needs, clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and manage and prioritize their workload effectively.
For senior-level professionals, the role includes leading data engineering projects, mentoring team members, and driving cross-team collaboration.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 3+ years of experience in data engineering roles.
Proficiency in Python is required, with a proven ability to write and maintain production-grade code.
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and orchestration tools like Airflow, as well as infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, is necessary.
Expertise in SQL and analytical data warehouses (preferably Snowflake) is required, along with knowledge of ETL/ELT best practices.
Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) AI systems is considered a plus.
Strong data modeling skills and experience in translating business requirements into scalable data solutions are essential.
A deep understanding of data governance practices, including data quality frameworks and tools, is required.
Familiarity with defining and tracking metrics to assess system performance and cost-efficiency is necessary.
Excellent communication skills are required to bridge technical and business perspectives, along with experience working closely with business teams to identify requirements.
Proven ability to manage and prioritize tasks, estimate effort, and lead projects or initiatives is essential.
For senior-level professionals, demonstrated leadership in mentoring and guiding team members and leading collaborative efforts across departments is required.
