Description:
The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain modern data infrastructure for the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) Data Hub project, contributing to the CDC Foundation's mission.
This role is part of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), which aims to support public health agencies with technology and data expertise.
The Data Engineer will create architecture for data storage, processing, analysis, and secure transfer to Tribal Leaders and public health professionals.
Responsibilities include developing scalable solutions in collaboration with epidemiologists, data content experts, and IT staff to support the NPAIHB’s Data Hub project.
The Data Hub Team is developing “The NW Tribal Data Hub” to provide public health data dashboards for 43 member Tribes.
The Data Engineer will ensure the design and implementation of a public health database, manage data ingestion, and create database structures for epidemiological analysis and reporting.
The position is remote, requires a work schedule of 8am – 5pm Pacific time, and is grant funded with an end date of June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
A minimum of five years of related informatics experience is necessary, with at least three years in a lead data engineer position.
Candidates must demonstrate expertise in building SQL relational databases and transitioning non-relational data into structured formats.
Proficiency in SQL and other programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala is required.
Experience in transforming data for visualization software and a strong understanding of database systems, particularly PostgreSQL, is essential.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, cloud computing platforms (preferably AWS), and data modeling techniques is required.
Candidates should have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements.
Experience working in a virtual environment and the ability to travel occasionally for in-person meetings is necessary.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
