Description:
The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain data infrastructure for a public health organization, specifically aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI).
This role involves delivering architecture for data generation, storage, processing, and analysis in support of the AWS Data Lake.
The Data Engineer will collaborate with epidemiologists, data content experts, analysts, data scientists, and IT staff to implement solutions that meet public health agency needs.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing distributed data processing pipelines, collecting and transforming data, optimizing data pipelines, and monitoring systems for performance issues.
The position requires collaboration with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services on data governance policy and security.
The Data Engineer will lead and partner with internal and vendor teams to ensure high-quality solutions through code reviews and best practices.
Additional tasks include designing and managing data storage systems, implementing ETL processes, and ensuring compliance with Nevada security regulations.
The role also involves developing strategies for data quality assessment and improvement, preparing documentation, and communicating effectively with partners.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Java, Scala, or SQL is required, with the ability to implement data automations.
Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Flink is essential.
A strong understanding of database systems, including relational and NoSQL databases, is required.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools is necessary.
Experience with cloud computing platforms is required.
Expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration techniques is essential.
Understanding of EHR systems and common data elements used in clinical concepts is required.
Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, and HITECH regulations is necessary.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills are required.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential.
Experience working in a virtual environment is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is necessary.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits.
The position offers a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates.
This is a grant-funded, limited-term opportunity with an end date of June 30, 2025.
