Description:
Kelp builds and maintains enterprise data products for Spotify’s industry partners, including record labels and audiobook publishers.
The licensing team plays a crucial role in ensuring Spotify has the content rights necessary to launch new products and grow profitably.
The Data Engineer I will scope, build, and improve data pipelines and API infrastructure.
The role involves processing terabytes of data from Spotify’s hundreds of millions of users and billions of daily audio streams.
The engineer will work with data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms such as Scala, Scio, Java, Flink, and Google Cloud Platform.
Responsibilities include improving data and API quality through testing, tooling, and continuously evaluating performance.
The position requires sharing responsibility for on-call monitoring and incident handling for production systems.
Collaboration with other software engineers, data scientists, and product owners is essential.
The role provides an opportunity to gain deep insight into the mechanics of the music and audiobooks industries.
Requirements:
Candidates must have an understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
Experience in building backend services is required.
Familiarity with current data engineering practices and a curiosity about new technologies that help derive insights and value from data is necessary.
A strong value for quality and an understanding of what it means to ship high-quality code is essential.
Being T-Shaped is a plus, with experience in data science, front end, or data visualization.
Candidates should be able to take on loosely defined problems and thrive in a team environment with autonomy in day-to-day decisions.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field of studies is required.

The United States base salary range for this position is $100,705 - $143,865, plus equity, with the possibility of future modifications.
