Description:
Mapbox is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Search Data team and build new datasets and pipelines for in-vehicle navigation applications.
The role involves processing batch data from thousands of sources and using ETL data pipelines to prepare it for search engines.
Responsibilities include working with specialized geospatial datasets such as addresses, road networks, buildings, and points of interest (POIs).
The engineer will create new data products for in-vehicle navigation experiences and implement distributed pipelines to process geospatial data.
The position requires integrating third-party data sources from various geographic areas into the basemap.
The engineer will interface with other teams to understand their geospatial data needs and provide solutions.
Automated quality metrics will be implemented to ensure high-quality data delivery to customers.
Mentoring other software engineers in design and code reviews is also a key responsibility.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5+ years of industry experience working with data pipelines.
Experience with AWS technologies such as S3, Athena, Glue, and EMR is required.
Proficiency in SQL is necessary.
Candidates should be proficient in at least one modern programming language (Python, Scala, or Java) suitable for data processing.
Strong experience with batch and real-time data processing is essential, along with the ability to implement new data pipelines and best practices.
Familiarity with Apache Spark or other Hadoop-based technologies is required.
Candidates should have familiarity with CI/CD processes.
Experience in introducing quality and operational metrics into a data ETL pipeline is necessary.
Candidates must have experience integrating data with APIs and querying data through APIs.

The annual base compensation for this role ranges from $139,000 to $188,600, with potential increases for higher-cost labor locations.
