Description:
CALSTART is seeking a Data Engineering Intern for a part-time (25 hours per week) 6-month internship.
The intern will work on a project to build a data lake and advanced data pipelines to support clean transportation insights.
Responsibilities include collaborating with the data engineering team to design and build a scalable data lake architecture using cloud platforms like AWS.
The intern will assist in building end-to-end ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to process and store data efficiently.
The role involves implementing data cleansing, transformation, and validation processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
The intern will develop interactive dashboards and visualizations using tools like Power BI or Tableau to present insights related to clean transportation.
Proper documentation of the data lake architecture, pipeline processes, and visualization tools is required for knowledge transfer and future improvements.
Requirements:
Proficiency in Python for data processing and analysis is required.
Experience with data science workflows and tools is necessary.
Knowledge of ETL processes and pipeline development is essential.
Familiarity with AWS services for cloud-based data infrastructure is expected.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
The candidate should be a collaborative team player with a proactive mindset.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Math, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields is desired.
Experience with data science/analytics is preferred.
Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server is necessary.
Some experience with ETL pipelines is a plus.
AWS experience is also preferred.
