Description:
The Data Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by leveraging data to inform strategic decisions and initiatives in a public health organization.
This position is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Scientist will serve as a key RStudio Cloud (Posit) subject matter expert within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Public Health Administration (PHA).
Responsibilities include assessing the current technology landscape, providing support and technical assistance, and facilitating understanding of cloud configuration needs.
The role involves analyzing diverse datasets, applying statistical methods and machine learning algorithms, and developing predictive models to guide public health interventions.
The Data Scientist will present data-driven insights clearly to facilitate informed decision-making and collaborate with MDHHS PHA and its partners to understand their data needs.
Continuous optimization of algorithms and staying abreast of emerging trends in data science and analytics are also key responsibilities.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, or a related field is required; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant or equivalent professional experience is necessary.
Demonstrated expertise in R and Python programming languages is required.
Understanding of cloud service provider platforms, cloud computing instance deployment, and data storage and management concepts is essential.
Experience with API integrations and open-source cloud platform technologies is required.
Candidates should have experience building RShiny dashboards and deploying R packages in Tidyverse, ggplot, Dplyr, and Shiny.
Knowledge of machine learning frameworks and experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and Power BI is necessary.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential.
Professional certifications in data science, machine learning, or public health analytics are preferred.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is necessary.
Benefits:
The position offers a salary range of $92,700-$134,275 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
This is a grant-funded, limited-term opportunity with an end date of June 30, 2025.
The role is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S.-based candidates.
