Description:
The Data Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by leveraging data to inform strategic decisions and initiatives in a public health organization.
This role is aligned to the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Scientist will work within the Virgin Islands Department of Health Epidemiology Division, utilizing advanced analytics, statistical techniques, and machine learning algorithms to derive insights that support public health efforts.
Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and improving data analysis and visualization tools for organizational staff, analyzing diverse datasets related to public health issues, and applying statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to extract actionable insights.
The Data Scientist will create predictive models, optimize algorithms, and present data-driven insights to facilitate informed decision-making.
The position is remote, must be based in the United States, and is grant funded with a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field is required; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required.
Experience with data integration and automation is necessary.
Experience in software development and UI design is preferred.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R is preferred.
Experience with data manipulation and analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Pandas, NumPy) is required.
Knowledge of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn) is necessary.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is necessary.
Professional certifications in data science, machine learning, or public health analytics are preferred.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to work well independently and within teams.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $92,700-$134,275 per year, plus benefits, with individual salary offers based on experience and qualifications.
