Description:
The Data Scientist will provide informatics expertise and perform health informatics activities for a public health organization, requiring specialized knowledge in health and information technology.
This role is part of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Scientist will work within the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division Data Modernization Office.
Responsibilities include planning and managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of data systems and informatics processes.
The Data Scientist will collaborate with various experts to design and implement solutions that meet public health agency needs.
This position is fully remote for U.S.-based candidates and is grant-funded with a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL is required, with the ability to implement data automations within existing frameworks.
Knowledge of machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or Scikit-learn is essential.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Expertise with Rhapsody Integration Engine is preferred, along with experience with multiple health data types (i.e., HL7, ELR, eCR, FHIR).
A solid understanding of API-based architectures, including FHIR, is required.
The ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively is necessary.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is essential.
Professional certifications in data science, machine learning, or public health analytics are preferred.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are required, along with the ability to work well independently and within teams.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $92,700-$134,275 per year, plus benefits, with individual offers based on experience and qualifications.
