Description:
The Data Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by leveraging data to inform strategic decisions and initiatives in a public health organization.
This role is aligned to the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded CDC Foundation program aimed at helping public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Scientist will provide technical assistance and support in utilizing data visualization software such as Tableau and Power BI.
The incumbent will build staff capacity within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Public Health Administration (PHA) to develop a strong understanding of data visualization principles.
Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and improving data analysis and visualization tools for organizational staff, analyzing diverse datasets related to public health issues, and serving as a trusted advisor on data visualization and reporting best practices.
The Data Scientist will create compelling visualizations and reports to communicate findings and present data-driven insights to facilitate informed decision-making.
Collaboration with MDHHS PHA and its partners to understand their data needs and objectives is essential.
The position is fully remote for U.S. based candidates and is grant funded with a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, or a related field is required; a Master’s or PhD in a related field is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required.
Expertise with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI is necessary.
Experience with data manipulation and analysis tools like SQL, Pandas, and NumPy is required.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential.
The ability to interpret complex datasets and derive meaningful insights is necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities is important.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are required, along with the ability to develop productive relationships with colleagues and partners.
Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams is necessary.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $92,700-$134,275 per year, plus benefits, with individual salary offers based on experience and qualifications.
