Description:
Common App is a national not-for-profit organization focused on access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process.
The Data Scientist position is responsible for building the organization’s data analytic and research function.
The role involves developing business intelligence products, overseeing data warehousing, and producing analyses and reports that support organizational priorities.
The Data Scientist will create efficient systems and workflows to execute the data operations agenda.
Responsibilities include producing and maintaining ETL processes, tables, and visualizations that promote access and equity.
Collaboration with Technology Services, Product Strategy, and Data Analytics and Research teams is essential to maximize the impact of the data warehouse.
The organization aims to simplify the college admissions process and expand access for low- and middle-income students.
Requirements:
Candidates must reside in the United States.
A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative social sciences discipline or a related quantitative field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4-6 years of relevant experience in data reporting, SQL, database architecture, ETL procedures, data analytics, data mining, and data quality is necessary.
Experience in designing and implementing data warehousing and analytic systems is required.
Candidates should have experience working with imperfect data and be familiar with descriptive and inferential statistics.
Familiarity with datasets from the National Center for Education Statistics, Census, College Scorecard, and other relevant educational datasets is preferred.
Proficiency in data manipulation and coding with SQL and/or R is essential.
Understanding of the strategic context of Common Application’s role in higher education is important.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate findings to non-technical audiences are required.
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s or doctorate degree in a quantitative discipline and at least one year of related experience, along with experience in data visualization and Agile frameworks.
