Description:
Ardent is seeking a Database Administrator to join their team in a remote position.
This role is part of a client-contractor team performing cloud-hosting operations and maintenance, as well as agile software development for a federal agency focused on improving post-disaster survivor outcomes.
The Database Administrator will provide daily monitoring and optimization of geospatial databases.
The role involves close collaboration with the Sys Admin, ArcGIS Server Admin, Security Admin, and a team of GIS & App Developers to identify and troubleshoot issues.
Responsibilities include making recommendations for database improvements, assisting with database design, development, and solution engineering for new enhancements.
The ideal candidate should be highly collaborative, detail-oriented, a creative problem-solver, and an effective communicator in team settings.
Full-time support is required, with responsibilities including SQL Server administration and working with various stakeholders to determine application requirements and specifications.
The DBA will maintain database security, stored procedures, ensure performance, and resolve problems independently.
Coordination with GIS Developers is necessary to implement and monitor GIS databases.
The role includes managing the design and development of GIS databases and ensuring system capacity for current and future requirements.
The DBA will assist with optimized design and development of GIS applications and multi-layered maps, design and implement data conversion procedures, and perform software and database quality control.
The DBA will tune the enterprise geo database for ESRI Web mapping applications and work with end users to implement data standards and quality assurance standards.
Documentation of methodologies used in database management and reporting is also required.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
Candidates must have 6-9 years of experience in database administration and development, specifically with GIS experience.
Extensive experience in designing and implementing geospatial systems is necessary.
Candidates should have extensive experience with spatial databases and data modeling.
Strong knowledge of GIS, particularly ESRI technologies and architectures, is essential.
Experience in GIS concepts and relational database administration, including Microsoft SQL Server, is required.
Knowledge of the latest trends in cloud database administration, especially related to Amazon Web Services, is necessary.
Extensive experience with ESRI software and tools, preferably ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS, is mandatory.
Candidates must be able to communicate technical information to non-technical users, both orally and in writing.
Experience in administering cloud-based database environments is required.
Proficiency in T-SQL and coding of software and processing digital databases, as well as using GIS programming languages such as Python and HTML, is necessary.
Preferred qualifications include ESRI Certification and AWS Cloud Certification (Cloud Certified Practitioner - Foundational).
All candidates must be willing to undergo a government-issued background investigation process.
