Remote Database Administrator (DBA) (The Data Custodian)

Description:

• The Database Administrator (DBA) will manage, optimize, and safeguard critical data systems, ensuring smooth operations across the organization.
• This role involves working closely with development and IT teams to design, maintain, and support database systems that meet business needs.
• Key responsibilities include overseeing database environments, including installation, configuration, and upgrades of database software to ensure security, reliability, and performance optimization.
• The DBA will continuously monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning recommendations to ensure optimal data retrieval and processing speeds.
• Implementing and managing database backup and recovery plans to prevent data loss is essential, along with ensuring disaster recovery protocols are in place and tested for reliability.
• The DBA will set up and enforce user roles, permissions, and access controls to maintain data security and protect databases from unauthorized access while adhering to compliance requirements.
• Planning and executing data migrations, consolidations, and integrations as needed will be part of the role, supporting seamless transitions when new databases or systems are introduced.
• Collaboration with developers and data analysts to design and implement efficient database structures, providing guidance on indexing, query optimization, and schema design for optimal performance is required.
• Maintaining detailed documentation of database configurations, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures is crucial for future maintenance and troubleshooting.

Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of database management, optimization, and tuning techniques for high performance is required.
• Familiarity with data security best practices, role-based access control, and compliance requirements is essential.
• Proficiency in implementing and managing backup/recovery solutions to ensure data resilience and business continuity is necessary.
• Strong SQL skills for querying, indexing, and data manipulation are required, along with familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automating database tasks.
• Expertise in managing relational database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle is required, with familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) being a plus.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required, with equivalent experience in database administration considered.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database – Specialty) are advantageous.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration, with a track record of managing and optimizing large-scale databases, is required.
• Experience with monitoring and performance management tools (e.g., SolarWinds DPA, New Relic) is beneficial.
• Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
