Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Engineer to lead a complex database migration project from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0.
This role is critical in ensuring our client's systems' stability, performance, and data integrity as they upgrade their core database infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of MySQL internals, extensive hands-on experience with large-scale production environments, and a strategic mindset for planning and executing database transitions with minimal disruption.
Responsibilities include leading the end-to-end migration of MySQL 5.7 databases to MySQL 8.0 across production, staging, and development environments.
The candidate will assess current schema design, stored procedures, triggers, and configurations for compatibility and optimization with MySQL 8.0.
They will develop and execute comprehensive migration and rollback plans, including testing, validation, and cutover strategies.
Collaboration with DevOps, application developers, and QA teams is essential to ensure application compatibility and performance post-migration.
The candidate will monitor and troubleshoot performance, replication, and connectivity issues before, during, and after migration.
Best practices in backup/restore, high availability, replication, and security will be applied during the migration process.
Detailed technical documentation and operational runbooks for ongoing maintenance will be created.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
The candidate must have 5+ years of hands-on experience with MySQL.
Proven experience leading at least one major MySQL version migration project is necessary.
A deep understanding of MySQL architecture, storage engines (InnoDB, MyISAM), indexing strategies, and performance tuning is essential.
A solid understanding of replication, partitioning, and clustering is required.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary for this role.
The candidate must be fluent in English, with a minimum B2 level required.
