Description:

The Database Performance Engineer role is a customer-facing position within the Support Engineering department at SingleStore.
This role involves developing a deep understanding of the SingleStore query optimizer and query execution to help customers utilize the full capabilities of the SingleStore engine.
Responsibilities include collaborating with customers on escalated query tuning and workload performance-related support tickets.
The engineer will investigate and solve performance problems, reproduce issues across various platforms, and suggest improvements to database performance based on Linux host configuration.
The position requires collaboration with software developers, sales engineers, and technical account managers to keep internal teams informed about customer status.
The engineer will also work on improving Support and Engineering processes, authoring documentation, and participating in an on-call rotation that may include weekends and holidays.
The role offers opportunities to explore new features, dive into query optimizer internals, and discover performance gains from small query text changes.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 8+ years of experience as a DBA or in hands-on database work.
A deep expertise in relational/distributed database implementation, advanced SQL query optimization, and SQL query tuning is required.
A strong background in product troubleshooting, particularly in relation to database or Linux configuration and resource availability, is essential.
Candidates should have a solid Linux performance background, including skills in generating and reading flame graphs, checking system resource utilization, and parsing log files; familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus.
Experience with a scripting or coding language such as C++, Python, Go, or Bash is necessary for quick problem-solving.
Familiarity with distributed systems and cloud platforms like AWS/GCP is required, along with the ability to analyze these systems for performance bottlenecks.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills are essential for explaining technical concepts to a diverse range of end-users.
Applicants must be available to work during Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours, specifically from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM India Time.
