Description:
The DevOps Engineer will provide engineering and technical guidance for the design, planning, development, and delivery of critical applications in a public health organization.
This role is part of the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), which aims to help public health agencies improve their information systems.
The DevOps Engineer will work within the Public Health Information Systems (PHIS) division under the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LA DPH).
Responsibilities include driving improvements in software delivery processes through automation and optimization of existing deployment architectures.
The position involves transitioning legacy systems into a unified platform, improving connectivity for electronic reporting, and supporting existing on-premises and hybrid-cloud systems.
The role is fully remote for U.S. based candidates and is grant funded with a limited-term opportunity ending on June 30, 2025.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is necessary.
Candidates must have experience in software delivery in a production setting, focusing on reliability, automation, testing, measuring, and scaling infrastructure.
In-depth knowledge of DevOps tools and system architectures, including data, application, security, and network architectures, is essential.
Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab is required.
Hands-on experience in cloud-based environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is necessary, including resource provisioning and management.
A solid understanding of ‘Infrastructure as Code’ principles and related tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet) is required.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, bash, PowerShell) and Linux administration is necessary, along with experience in Windows Server environments.
Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes is required.
Candidates should be familiar with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies and software design patterns is necessary.
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and distributed teams is required.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits, with individual offers based on experience and qualifications.
