Description:

OpenAI is seeking a Distributed Systems Engineer with a focus on security to protect its work from misuse.
The role involves building large-scale production-grade distributed systems that secure OpenAI's massive fleet.
Responsibilities include providing easy-to-use, introspectable systems that promote fast debugging and development cycles while maintaining stability and performance.
The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, developers, and security advisers to design, architect, and implement security improvements across OpenAI.
The position is senior-level, requiring broad knowledge of security, software, and infrastructure.
The engineer will work across Go, Python, and Rust stacks.
Duties include building infrastructure to secure bare metal and cloud infrastructure using modern technologies like trusted computing.
The role also involves profiling, optimizing, and designing for scale while keeping security transparent to engineers and researchers.

Requirements:

Candidates must have designed, implemented, and operated large-scale distributed systems.
A passion for understanding how systems work and generating ideas to enhance speed while minimizing complexity and maintenance is essential.
Strong software engineering skills are required, with proficiency in Python, Go, and/or Rust.
A good understanding of the tradeoffs between security, reliability, usability, and performance is necessary.
