Description:

  • Zapier is seeking a Backend Engineer to join Team Events and assist in developing and enhancing event & queuing services that support Zapier's products.
  • The focus will be on building and maintaining the Events system and other queueing solutions used internally at Zapier.
  • The role involves working with AWS services like MSK, SQS, Redis, S3, Lambda, and Aurora to handle billions of events daily.
  • Responsibilities include building toolkits, libraries, and scripts to facilitate emitting and consuming from the Events system and other queue solutions.
  • The position requires contributing to data governance practices, refactoring existing code, providing feedback on tools and processes, and participating in on-call rotations for system reliability.
  • Collaboration, exploration, versatility, and user advocacy are key values for this role.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to specialize in various areas of the Zapier codebase and contribute across teams as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of software development experience in Python, Go, or Typescript, with at least 2 years focused on building event/streaming systems at scale.
  • Proficiency in working with Events architectures and services using technologies like Kafka (MSK) and Avro.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining highly available, cloud-based infrastructure in AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS services, cloud computing technologies, and distributed data stores.
  • Ability to create automated tools using Python or Go and advocate for hands-off deployments and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, collaboration abilities, and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Nice-to-have skills include SRE experience, knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, and curiosity to explore new solutions.
