The Firewall Engineer position is a full-time remote role based in Topeka, KS, within the Network Security Team at True Zero Technologies.
Responsibilities include deploying, configuring, and managing firewalls such as Palo Alto, CISCO ASA, and Checkpoint to protect critical infrastructure and data.
The role involves developing and maintaining security policies and rules that comply with best practices and organizational requirements.
Regular system upgrades, patches, enhancements, and performance monitoring are required to ensure the security and efficiency of firewall operations.
Collaboration with the IT security team is essential to create and implement a comprehensive network security strategy.
Documentation of all configurations, modifications, and security policies related to the firewall infrastructure is necessary.
The engineer will provide technical support and guidance to team members and staff regarding network security issues and firewall functionalities.
Staying updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, technologies, and automation practices is crucial for enhancing firewall security and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is required.
Candidates must have 3+ years of hands-on experience in firewall administration, specifically with Palo Alto, CISCO ASA, and Checkpoint products.
A thorough understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, and VPN is necessary.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for managing complex security systems.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required to work effectively in a team environment and with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in documenting processes and procedures clearly and accurately is mandatory.
Preferred qualifications include certifications in Palo Alto (e.g., PCNSE), CISCO, Checkpoint, and/or CISSP.
Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (Python, Bash) for efficient firewall management and log analysis automation is preferred.
Experience in implementing and managing advanced firewall features such as intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and application layer filtering is also preferred.
