Description:
The Founding Principal Software Engineer will help build the next generation data platform to support decentralized analytical and ML workloads, including data product containers and the data product container runtime.
This role is crucial as the company is in its foundational stages, and the engineer's work will shape the future adoption of data mesh in the industry.
The engineer will apply their knowledge of large-scale distributed systems and databases to create a new and secure OS platform for future data product developers.
Responsibilities include contributing to the overall design of Nextdata OS and owning the design and implementation of significant parts of the OS.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 10+ years of experience working on large-scale production-grade distributed systems, databases, data infrastructure, or big data management.
A working understanding of Kubernetes and at least one public cloud is required.
Experience as a generalist or polyglot system programmer in languages such as RUST, C++, or Go is necessary.
Candidates should have experience with DevOps/CD and building SaaS/PaaS products, as well as contributing to big data/analytics OSS projects or internal data infrastructure products.
Experience working in digital-native scale-up data teams or startups is preferred.
Curiosity, passion, and some experience in the application of data in ML and analytics applications are important.
An understanding and experience with data mesh is beneficial, but the creator can help candidates get up to speed if needed.
The ability to effectively contribute to code and work both self-directed and within a team is essential.
Experience in design, architecture, and delivery is required.
Candidates should have experience working with a team of product, design, and engineering professionals who hold each other to high standards.
Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset are necessary for this role.
Travel is generally not anticipated, except for regular company-wide events and meetings.
