Hyperspell is building a secure, seamless data access platform for AI applications, enabling safe and efficient connections to users' personal data.
As a Founding Python Generalist Engineer, you will develop the core Data-as-a-Service infrastructure from scratch.
You will transition from a working prototype to a scalable product, playing a critical role in designing and implementing architecture and best practices.
Your responsibilities include designing and implementing foundational Transform and Retrieve modules for Hyperspell’s data processing pipeline.
You will build APIs, SDKs, and scalable ETL pipelines to facilitate seamless access to user data for AI applications.
You will collaborate with product and DevOps teams to establish a robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure.
You will create developer-friendly APIs and SDKs in Python and Typescript.
You will define and implement data ingestion, transformation, and retrieval processes, ensuring efficient and secure data processing.
You will architect and implement ETL pipelines to manage data from multiple sources, including APIs, webhooks, and file systems.
You will build and optimize retrieval algorithms for accurate user query responses.
You will implement security best practices to protect sensitive user data.
You will design infrastructure with future scaling needs in mind, anticipating high data volumes and complex query handling.

Requirements:

You must have strong proficiency in Python, with extensive experience in data pipeline development and backend engineering.
You should have hands-on experience with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and vector databases.
You need to understand data security practices, including secure data storage, token management, and compliance standards like SOC2/GDPR.
You should demonstrate developer empathy, with experience in building developer-focused tools and creating intuitive APIs and SDKs.
You must be comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage environments, able to navigate uncharted territory in a fast-paced startup.
Strong problem-solving skills are essential, with a willingness to explore new tools and approaches for data integration challenges.
Bonus points if you have experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) and search engines (e.g., ElasticSearch).
Proven expertise in building ETL pipelines from scratch is a plus.
You should be skilled at balancing development speed with high standards for code quality and security.
Comfort in advocating for best practices and mentoring future hires is also desirable.
