Description:

  • Canonical is looking for Golang engineers of all levels of seniority to work remotely from Africa, specifically Nairobi.
  • Golang is preferred for software development at Canonical due to its performance and security features.
  • The engineering teams at Canonical use Golang to build systems that deliver Ubuntu worldwide.
  • The role involves designing, implementing, and debugging well-tested software in Go.
  • Engineers will collaborate with the community and colleagues on technical specifications and seek improvements in engineering practices.
  • The position requires experience with Linux, especially Debian or Ubuntu, and a passion for Linux at the system level.
  • Additional skills such as experience with Ubuntu Linux, Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro, performance engineering, and security are beneficial.
  • The role also involves contributing to the success of the product through technical advocacy and participating in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path.
  • Drive, ability to go above-and-beyond expectations, and deliver to schedule.
  • Professional manner interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality Golang software on Linux.
  • For senior roles, experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each.
